Op-ed: N.Y.’s unfinished business on climate justice

Three years ago, New Yorkers dramatically shifted the trajectory of our future by enacting the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), a historic law to protect our state from the impacts of climate change and to transition our economy away from fossil fuels and toward safe, clean, reliable and affordable energy produced right here in our state.

But though the CLCPA promises a better future for New York, that future will only materialize if we deliver the investment necessary to make it happen. We must live up to our commitments — and the longer we wait, the harder, and more expensive, it will become. The climate crisis is here, costing our state billions of dollars every year and threatening the lives and livelihoods of New Yorkers. Any further delay in acting is simply reckless and irresponsible.
