NY RENEWS POLICY AND POPULAR EDUCATION FELLOWSHIP

 
 

June -  November, Part time, Roughly 20 hours/week 

DESCRIPTION: NY Renews is seeking a spring Policy and Popular Education Fellow. The fellow will work to support the campaign for the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA) and the implementation of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) through developing case studies and pop-ed materials to uplift coalition member projects across the state as solutions to be scaled for a Just Transition.  The position will be remote. Fellow will receive additional training but should have an initial basis for policy research, case study development, popular education and storytelling organizing. Fellow will both own discrete projects and assist with ongoing campaign actions. 

COMPENSATION:  This fellowship pays $20/hr and requires 500 hours of work to be completed between June, 2021 and November, 2021. Fellow will work an average of 20 hours/week, with some critical campaign weeks requiring more work and some slower weeks requiring less. 

JOB FUNCTION: 

The fellow will work with the Policy Organizer, Coalition Staff and policy committee leads to:

  • Develop a case study “template” for use in developing and compiling case studies with the goal of detailing how NY Renews coalition members throughout the state are doing work that can be scaled for a Just Transition. 

  • Compile case studies of coalition member projects throughout the state, including but not limited to collecting web site or other public information, evaluating economic analysis and conducting interviews.

  • With the Policy Organizer and Policy Committee, analyze policy briefs, available economic data and reports in the context of the CCIA and CLCPA to “make the case” and “tell the story” of how NY Renews member projects are Just Transition solutions in New York State.

  • Work with the Policy Committee and  NY Renews Storytelling Project to utilize the case studies and related data to create pop-ed materials for use in trainings and storytelling organizing.

  • Create related graphic media content including infographics and short videos; draft and edit emails, actions/events and campaign toolkits as needed.

Fellow will be supervised by the Policy Organizer and will additionally work with the Lead Coalition Organizer.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Candidates should have: 

  • Experience working in climate or racial justice and related policy

  • Knowledge of case studies, case study development; comfortability with economic analysis as it relates to workforce development, racial justice and social justice is a plus

  • Experience in storytelling organizing and popular education

  • Experience with at least two of the following technologies: social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), Canva or other graphic design program, iMovie or other digital editing tools

  • Experience communicating complex policy ideas to a broad audience
