NY Renews Statement on Governor Hochul’s About-Face on
NYC Congestion Pricing
In response to Governor Hochul’s abandonment of NYC Congestion Pricing, NY Renews issued the following statement:
NY Renews, the statewide coalition of almost 400 climate, labor, environmental justice, and faith organizations, strenuously opposes Gov Hochul’s last-minute effort to delay congestion pricing in New York City. The congestion pricing plan, years in the making, will not only cut traffic and pollution in one of the most congested areas in the country, it will invest $15 billion in desperately needed capital, service, and accessibility improvements in the MTA. After years of extensive studies, planning, and stakeholder input, it is unconscionable to jeopardize this major infrastructure and climate program with further delays.
As recently as this past December, Gov Hochul said: “I’m so proud of what we’ve done here. We’ll keep our subway strong for the next generation. Less traffic, cleaner air, faster buses… we’re fighting to save our planet, we are fighting to save our kids, we’re fighting for our riders, and we are fighting for the greatest city on the planet!”
We urge the Governor to heed her own words, allow congestion pricing to go forward, and lead New York into a more sustainable, healthy, and equitable transportation future.

En respuesta al abandono de la tarificación por la congestión en NYC por parte de la Gobernadora Hochul, NY Renews emite la siguiente declaración:
NY Renews, la coalición estatal de casi 400 organizaciones de clima, trabajo, justicia ambiental y fe, se opone enérgicamente al esfuerzo de última hora de la Gobernadora Hocul para retrasar la tarificación por congestión en la ciudad de Nueva York. El plan reducirá el tráfico y la contaminación en una de las áreas más congestionadas del país, sino que también invertirá $15 mil millones en mejoras de capital, servicio y accesibilidad urgentemente necesarias en la MTA. Después de años de estudios extensivos, planificación y aportes de las partes interesadas, es inconcebible poner en peligro este importante programa de infraestructura y clima con más retrasos.
Tan recientemente como este pasado diciembre, la Gobernadora Hochul dijo: “Estoy tan orgullosa de lo que hemos hecho aquí. Mantendremos nuestro metro fuerte para la próxima generación. Menos tráfico, aire más limpio, autobuses más rápidos… estamos luchando para salvar nuestro planeta, estamos luchando para salvar a nuestros hijos, estamos luchando por nuestros pasajeros y estamos luchando por la mejor ciudad del planeta!”
Instamos a la Gobernadora a que escuche sus propias palabras, permita que la tarifiación por congestión avance y lidere a Nueva York hacia un futuro de transporte más sostenible, saludable y equitativo.
