Statement on Williams Pipeline Denial

Albany, NY — NY Renews, the 200-member coalition behind the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, released the following statement on the Department of Environmental Conservation rejecting the permit for the Williams Pipeline.

“We’re overjoyed that the Williams Pipeline was rejected. Thanks to the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, New York must cease our reliance on fossil fuels, transition to renewable energy, and consider climate risk in evaluating new projects. Moving forward, the state and National Grid must choose a way to meet our state’s energy needs through renewable sources that do not overburden environmental justice communities, and not fracked gas or other toxic and polluting fossil fuels. We congratulate our partners and allies in the Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition for leading on this issue. This work is far from over, but we will continue to fight for a just and fossil fuel free New York.”
